Miltenberg, Germany, May 2nd
|
Miltenberg is a charming little medieval town on the Main, built in the thirteenth century on the site of a Roman
fortress. To the right of the picture above is the church where some years ago the parish priest made a name for
himself by defeating an attempt to hold a neo-nazi rally in the square. He locked himself in the church and began
ringing all the bells furiously every time a speech started. In the end, the neo-nazis gave up and went back to their
home towns. The priest became a bishop.
The inn, Zum Riesen, below left, has two claims to fame: it is the oldest inn in Germany and it's where Elvis Presley
had a beer and a brat when he was stationed nearby with the U.S. forces.
