Phil Avila gave an excellent presentation entitled "Sentinels of Granite, Regiments at
Gettysburg." Having visited Gettysburg countless times, Phil hasphotographed every battlefield
monument and knows the history of each in great detail. He enthralled us with wonderful color
slides of the more significant structures and used them to illustrate the ebb and flow of the battle
on July 2nd.
An unreconstructed Confederate, Phil led a lively discussion at the end of his presentation, on
slavery, emancipation, and the "value" of the war.
